2008 Smithsonian Folklife Festival Documentation Project: June 25-June 29 and July 2-6
The Smithsonian Photography Initiative and the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage invite visitors to the 2008 Smithsonian Folklife Festival to submit photos of the Festival to a Flickr photo pool. A daily selection will be posted here.

Enter the Frame
Welcome to Enter the Frame, an interactive exhibition inviting visitors to contribute keywords to describe the Smithsonian’s photographs. These keywords will be used to improve future searching across the Smithsonian’s photo collections.
Enter the Frame takes advantage of the online trend of sharing photographs through “social tagging,” or “folksonomies.” Social tags are keywords contributed by a community to describe and retrieve web content such as photographs or video.
Enter the Frame is an experiment in applying new technologies to increase the public’s access to the Smithsonian’s photo collections. We invite you to browse thousands of Smithsonian images, “tag” them, and create original sequences using the photographs you discover during your experience.
